Composition of the common rail system

The common rail system is mainly composed of a high-pressure common rail, a fuel pump, a pressure regulating valve, fuel injectors (common rail nozzles), an electronic control unit (ECU), and various sensors.
High-pressure common rail: It is a piping system that runs through the injectors of each cylinder in the entire engine and is used to store high-pressure fuel.
Fuel pump: It is responsible for extracting diesel from the fuel tank and delivering the fuel into the high-pressure common rail at a specific pressure. It is usually driven by a camshaft or gear transmission.

Pressure regulating valve: Located between the fuel pump and the high-pressure common rail, it controls the operation of the pump according to the signals sent by the ECU to maintain a constant pressure in the common rail.
Fuel injector (common rail injector): It is connected to the high-pressure common rail, receives high-pressure fuel from the common rail, and precisely injects fuel into the combustion chamber according to the control signal from the ECU.

Electronic Control Unit (ECU): It receives information about the engine operating conditions monitored by various sensors. After calculation and judgment, it determines the control parameters suitable for the engine’s current operating conditions, converts these parameters into electrical signals, and sends them to actuators such as fuel injectors.

Sensors: Such as crankshaft speed sensor, coolant temperature sensor, air flow sensor, accelerator pedal position sensor, needle valve stroke sensor, etc., which are used to detect the real-time operating condition information of the engine and transmit the signals to the ECU.
